Geobased Quality Score In Google

10.03.08 | Permalink |

Brad Geddes is reporting that Google has now officially added a line under Quality Score Formulas on their QS page help page.   Brad points out that the important part of this addition is that the score will be taken on an account wide level rather than the campaign level.

This is a bit odd since you can geotarget on the campaign level.  If you are running two geotargeted campaigns, the ads in a lower performing campaign will get a boost from the better performing campaign and that campaign will have it’s quality score slightly reduced.  If it stays like this, then it looks like my first thoughts on the new quality score may have been opposite of what can happen now.  Instead of it being more difficult for a regional advertiser to expand, it may become easier.  If you’re a regional business and are currently only advertising within your designated region, it might be a bit easier to expand your marketing efforts since your CTR should be historically high in your local market.  As you first expand, that QS will be transferred to your new search campaigns.
