Over the weekend, I was thinking of writing a post about what has been happening with the credit markets, Wall Street, the economy, etc. and their affects on online marketing. Today, I saw a post by Andrew Goodman titled, Wall Street Meltdown: 11 Ways It Affects Digital Marketers, on SearchEngineLand.
Out of all the blogs, articles, whitepapers or really any other source of information that I’ve read, there hasn’t been anyone who I’ve consistently agreed with more than Andrew Goodman. His views and opinions on search are pretty much parallel with mine and although I only know him through his writing, I see him as one of the smarter online marketers out there with a great grasp on the big picture while also knowing the details. Overall, he’s able to say it better than I could, so I’d rather link to his than try to write something that will just sound similar.
Here are the headings of the first 5, (the rest are coming in his follow up), but I recommend you read his full article to get a more indepth look at what is likely to happen within our industry in the next year or two.
- Paid search will remain relatively robust.
- Display ads are vulnerable in a slowdown.
- Weak companies die. The strong get stronger.
- M&A activity and people changing jobs.
- Focus shifts to a few leaders; media becomes less curious?
