I was just on Walmart.com and noticed that besides the updated logo, there is also a new banner ad at the top of the screen with the word Advertisement written vertically on the left side of the banner.
Is Walmart.com trying to make some extra dough using banners on their site?
Looks like it. Although it’s not your typical media buy. The ads seem to be managed through Yahoo and Right Media but redirect back to Walmart.com pages except the ShareBulder/ING ad that redirects to a Walmart labeled page on ShareBuilder.com.
It might be that Walmart is doing some co-branded advertising partnering with these companies to push their products and are using Yahoo to help track metrics. It seems odd from a user experience POV that they’re still labeling them as advertisements since almost everyone will assume Walmart is trying to make every penny it can by advertising for competitors.
